TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Taiwan condemned North Korea on Wednesday (Nov. 22) after it claimed it had launched a military reconnaissance satellite the previous evening.

Taiwan's foreign ministry expressed its gravest concerns over the provocation, highlighting that it was the 22nd instance in 2023 of North Korea deploying missiles or satellites in a show of force that undermines regional peace and security.

In a press release, the MOFA urged North Korea to comply with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and to engage in dialogue to foster peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the surrounding area.

This statement was in response to a report by North Korea's state media outlet, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which announced that Pyongyang had successfully placed a military reconnaissance satellite into Earth's orbit and plans to launch additional ones in the near future.
