Domestic egg supply stable: Minister of Agriculture (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Acting Minister of Agriculture Chen Junne-jih declared on Monday (Nov. 20) that Taiwan's domestic egg production is now sufficient to meet all consumer demands, eliminating the need for imports.

Chen's announcement came during a joint meeting of the Legislative Yuan's Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee, Economics Committee, and Internal Administration Committee.

With the country producing nearly 24 million eggs daily and the laying hen population reaching around 34 million, Chen stressed that the domestic egg supply is stable.

However, he expressed concerns about the weakened consumer demand caused by some schools banning liquid eggs, which has led to an increase in stock and pressure on national egg production. Chen urged for a reevaluation and lifting of this ban to ensure the stability of egg supplies.

Regarding potential egg price reductions, Chen stated that prices depend on consumer demand, suggesting that incorrect dietary restrictions could affect the market.
