TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is still confirming the information about Myanmar handing over six Taiwanese telecom fraudsters to China on Thursday (Nov. 16), while assuring ongoing verification through various channels to bring the stranded citizens back to Taiwan.
The foreign ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu stated in a press conference that the MOFA will partner with the Ministry of Justice, National Police Agency, and National Immigration Agency.
Liu stated that the Wa State of Myanmar, one of the few democratic autonomous regions, possesses an independent judicial system, and maintains a close relationship with China.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar is persistently working through multiple means to aid Taiwanese citizens in returning home.
A day earlier, the Wa State government of Myanmar relinquished 277 Chinese telecom fraud personnel to China's law enforcement, which includes six Taiwanese individuals.
This act marks Myanmar's first public announcement of transferring Taiwanese among telecom fraud culprits recently.
