TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen stressed the significance of securing a legislative majority on Saturday (Nov. 11), remarking that having a dominant ruling party poses no issues and underscored the importance of adhering to the public's will.

Tsai made these remarks during a campaign stop in Taichung, showing her support for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Lin Ching-yi.

In her address, Tsai emphasized that elections are a cornerstone of democratic oversight. She referred to her experiences in the 2016, 2018, and 2020 elections, highlighting the paramount role of the people's voice.

In 2016, Tsai was elected president, and in the 2018 local elections, the electorate expressed dissatisfaction through their votes. Tsai recounted her ongoing efforts to bring about improvement despite challenges. In 2020, she garnered renewed support, demonstrating the resilience of democratic mechanisms.

Acknowledging Taiwan's burgeoning national influence in recent years, Tsai called for the continuity of the DPP's governance. She countered any arguments for the removal of ruling party power, asserting that government leaders had "elevated Taiwan onto the global stage."

Tsai's comments coincide with Taiwan's ongoing democratic journey in the midst of a shifting geopolitical landscape.
