MOI reports 25% increase in foreigners relocating to Taiwan

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior reported on Wednesday (Nov. 8) that Taiwan has seen a 25% increase in the number of foreigners relocating to the country, rising from 68,757 in 2018 to a record high of 85,814 in 2022.

This increase contradicts media narratives of a mass exodus prompted by war fears, instead indicating a positive immigration trend.

Over recent years, the Taiwanese government has taken steps to attract skilled foreigners. These measures include reducing residency requirements for permanent settlement, permitting highly skilled professionals to retain their original nationality, and extending the job-seeking period for foreign graduates.

These initiatives, along with Taiwan's burgeoning industry and favorable economic environment, have played a crucial role in the increased number of new residents.
