TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) confirmed on Saturday (Nov. 4) that discussions are ongoing for setting up a representative office in Estonia.

While the move carries significant weight for the strengthening of ties between the two nations, a shared consensus is yet to be achieved, the ministry added.

Expressing gratitude toward the Estonian Government for engaging in continued negotiations and exhibiting an open approach towards the talks, MOFA emphasized the shared values of freedom and democracy that tie the two nations together.

One day earlier, Estonia's public broadcaster ERR News reported that the Estonian government has agreed to allow Taiwan to establish an economic or cultural representative office in the Estonian capital of Tallinn under the name 'Taipei.'

In reference to foreign media reports that Joseph Wu, Taiwan's Foreign Minister, will be visiting Estonia, MOFA remarked that it will respond at an appropriate time.

The ministry further underlined the stable development of the bilateral relationship, referring to the stance taken by Riina Sikkut, the Estonian health minister, on behalf of Taiwan at this year's World Health Assembly (WHA).

It highlighted Estonia as a valued partner with common principles, portraying the potential of deepening ties for future diplomatic endeavors.
