TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, as a descendant of the Chiang family, shared in an interview before presiding over a City Council meeting on Tuesday (Oct. 31) that he had read parts of former President Chiang Kai-shek's diary during his time in the U.S.
The mayor emphasized the importance of complete public disclosure of information related to that historical period as a sign of respect towards differing perspectives.
In remembrance of former President Chiang's passing 45 years ago, the Academia Historica (DRNH) released a book containing a collection of records from the Chiang-era that were returned from the U.S. Meanwhile, the families of the 228 Massacre victims visited the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to express their sentiments.
Mayor Chiang expressed his hopes for publishing Chiang's diaries, which would help manifest history. Although he still needs to get a chance to read the full content, Mayor Chiang anticipated that the book event today would offer comprehensive insights into the past.
