TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Shih Hsin University announced on Sunday (Oct. 29) that it is considering how to make adjustments between different departments, promising a complete discussion with faculty and students after rumors began circling about the school halting admissions to its Chinese Literature Department in the 2025 academic year.
Though some social media users pointed out the decision is due to poor undergraduate enrollment rates, the Chinese Literature Department is not the worst-performing department according to actual admission statistics.
Professor Lai Cheng-neng, deputy chancellor of the university, reassured students that the department would only close its doors officially when all undergraduate students, from sophomores to seniors, have graduated.
The decision to suspend admissions will require approval from the institution and other relevant entities, with the official suspension only taking effect in the academic year 2025 if the application is approved this year.
The Chinese Literature Department, established in 1998 as part of the university's liberal education center, added its master's program in 2003 and a PhD program in 2007.
