Over 30 universities in Taiwan implement Mental Health Days
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Youth Association for Democracy reported that more than 30 universities nationwide have implemented mental health days.
Nearly two months into the school year, the number of universities offering mental health days has increased from just 12 in May to over 30.
According to the association, based on data from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the number of people under 24 years of age ending their lives has nearly tripled in the last decade.
A recent mental health survey found many students feel they need mental health days but struggle to communicate their stress to adults.
The association believes providing mental health days can allow students to rest and adjust, alleviating their emotional burdens and helping them better cope with stress.
Most universities limit mental health days to three or five days per semester, a limit the association believes can help prevent excessive absences.
