UK calls for coordination against potential Chinese action (Shutterstock)
LONDON (TVBS News) — The UK House of Commons Defence Committee on Tuesday (Oct. 24) called for more coordination between British authorities and allied forces to prepare for a potential Chinese action against Taiwan.
The request came as part of a nearly 50-page report titled "UK Defence and the Indo-Pacific," highlighting China's global ambitions and its increasingly aggressive means to achieve them.
The report stated that there are multiple signs indicating China's intent to confront Taiwan "in the forthcoming years," either through direct military action or by exploiting grey zones of international law.
The report also emphasized the insufficiency of the UK's current military deployment and activity in the Indo-Pacific region, noting a lack of clear strategic objectives and combat readiness.
China's potential conflict with Taiwan in the coming years is among the most significant concerns for many Western governments in the Indo-Pacific, the Committee reported.
It urged the UK government to develop a comprehensive plan, coordinating with allies, to counteract potential Chinese actions against Taiwan.
