MOFA criticizes Ma Ying-jeou for controversial remarks (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Joseph Wu, Taiwan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed deep regret on Wednesday (Oct. 18) regarding former President Ma Ying-jeou's suggestion that certain U.S. factions are using Taiwan's semiconductor industry as a weapon. Wu condemned Ma for intentionally aligning himself with Chinese positions.
Ma had previously stated during a speech at New York University that some American individuals viewed Taiwan as a battlefield or intended to transform Taiwan into a "second Ukraine."
A press release from the Foreign Ministry rebuked Ma's comments as being noticeably detached from the truth and domestic public opinion.
The harsh wording pointedly refuted Ma's narrative and reinforced Wu's criticism.
Wu topped off his response by affirming the position of the Taiwanese government, highlighting the need for public political figures to garner international support in the face of rising cross-strait tensions.
