KMT proposes concrete plans for open primary (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih proposed a concrete plan for an open primary on Tuesday (Oct. 17), aiming at merging KMT with the Taiwan People's Party (TPP).
TPP campaign office director Chou Yu-hsiu reiterated TPP's opposition to the "open primary" proposed by KMT following KMT-TPP's first meeting.
Chou pointed out numerous challenges of the open primary, including tight timelines, establishment hurdles of polling places, ambiguity in execution, and difficulty in banning duplicate voting.
In response, Hou put forth anti-fraud measures, including a computer system aimed at preventing duplicative voting, along with a ban on using buses for voter transportation.
Hou is pressing for both parties to expedite discussions and approve a compromise plan at the earliest.
Whether KMT's proposed solutions can gain acceptance from TPP remains under public observation, while the future of this political merger hangs in the balance, potentially redefining Taiwan's political landscape.
