Taiwan awaits China to lift travel ban: Premier Chen (Courtesy of Executive Yuan)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen expressed his disappointment at mainland China's inaction despite Taiwan's friendly advances regarding the resumption of cross-strait tourism on Tuesday (Oct. 17).
A day earlier, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) Minister Wang Kwo-tsai revealed at the Legislative Yuan that Taiwan, expressing a friendly attitude, was hoping to lift the travel ban on mainland China in the second half of this year; however, no response was received.
Premier Chen added that Taiwan has opened its doors to facilitate educational exchange with mainland China. However, China's response has been less favorable.
Chen maintains that cross-strait interactions should be healthy and orderly, urging equitable and reciprocal communication between the two sides.
He emphasized the success of Taiwan's tourism promotion, with a total of 4.6 million visitors to date.
Despite the lack of an influx of Chinese tourists, the Premier is confident about reaching the year-end target of 6 million visitors.
