TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu emphasized the necessity of a "Blue-White" alliance in a Central Standing Committee meeting Wednesday (Oct. 4), calling it a response to the public's expectations rather than an opportunistic distribution of political spoils.

The statement follows Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je's proposal of a public opinion poll contest with KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih to determine who should withdraw from the election.

Chu stated that in the face of the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) eight years of governance issues, a KMT and TPP alliance is pivotal and reflective of the popular will. He asserted that the KMT will strive to unite all allies under this common ideology.

Drawing comparisons from Western democracies, Chu observed that party alliances are commonplace, premised on shared political ideals rather than opportunism or self-interest.

Focusing on the Legislative Yuan, Chu described the upcoming session as a battlefield, expressing hope that the KMT delegation embodies the utmost fighting spirit and institutional potency on the public's issues.

Chu foresees a substantial increase in the KMT's members in the Legislative Yuan after Jan. 13 next year, making it the majority party. He urged collective effort toward "continued progress."
