TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn founder Terry Gou showed his support for former President Ma Ying-jeou's decision not to attend the National Day celebration on Monday (Oct. 2) through a Facebook post. In his social media post, he criticized President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te's views on national identity.

Ma rejected attending this year's ceremony a day earlier after the Tsai administration renamed the holiday "Taiwan National Day." He criticized this move as a step toward "Taiwanese independence."

Gou also echoed Ma's stance, reiterating that Taiwan's official name is the 'Republic of China' (ROC) and condemning the Democratic Progressive Party's practice of altering the country's name.

Gou pointed out that important national symbols such as the "Constitution of the Republic of China," the "Republic of China Armed Forces," the "Central Bank of the Republic of China," and the "Flag of the Republic of China," all need to be respected.

Gou, who indicated his intention to run in the 2024 presidential election, aims to achieve peace for the ROC and hopes to end the DPP's rule in the upcoming election, according to his Website.
