Kee Tai Properties’ construction site in Dazhi collapsed on Thursday, dragging neighboring buildings

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Government Construction Management Office official Yu Chi-hsueh estimated on Friday (Sept. 8) that it would take around three days to grout the construction site of Kee Tai Properties Co. Ltd. and neighboring areas following their collapse.

He pointed out that there were likely issues with the building's slurry walls, as the contractor had been instructed to reinforce it before the incident occurred.

Due to the possible breakage of slurry walls, a sudden burst of pressure was released, leading to the site's collapse.

Kee Tai Properties has committed to taking full responsibility and providing consolation, care, and relocation assistance to the damaged households. Besides, the company has vowed to adopt diversified improvement measures to safeguard the rights of the affected families.

Yu revealed this morning that the building project, which involved a 12-floor structure with three underground levels, received its construction permit in 2021. Excavation had reached a depth of about 12 meters. At around 8:35 p.m. last night, damage was reported, and a field investigation was immediately initiated with heads of structural and civil engineering societies.

Yu stated that 300 cubic meters of cement had been poured to completely fill the collapsed part by Sunday, once confirmed by the three unions. It will be only then that access to the area will be restored.
