TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The low-lying coastal regions of Cijin, Kaohsiung, saw waterlogged streets on Tuesday, (Aug. 29) as the southern region of Taiwan is grappling with the impact of the annual spring tide and the impending Typhoon Saola.
As the typhoon approaches, residents of Cijin are hastily preparing to weather its potential impact. Kaohsiung City Deputy Mayor Lin Chin-rong visited the area to review the Typhoon-preparedness measures and urged residents to brace for the Spring Tide phenomenon expected on Aug. 30 and 31.
The timing of two full moons this August, coincidentally coinciding with typhoons, is leaving the residents of Cijin concerned about a recurrence of the severe flooding experienced just like Aug. 2. The second full moon is due to appear on Aug. 31, potentially exacerbating the situation.
In response, The Water Resources Agency has installed water pumps on two roads in Cijin in an effort to alleviate the risk of flooding.
