TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) reported on Friday (Aug. 25) that a total of 22 Chinese military aircraft were detected since 7 a.m., with 13 entering Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

Additionally, five Chinese naval vessels were reported executing joint combat readiness patrols.

In a move to bolster Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities, the U.S. government announced on Wednesday (Aug. 23) the approved sale to Taiwan of infrared search and track (IRST) systems and related equipment for its F-16V fighter jets.

The deal, worth approximately US$500 million (around NT$15.9 billion), is the Biden administration's 11th arms sale to Taiwan.

The newly acquired IRST equipment will enhance the long-range reconnaissance capabilities and air combat effectiveness of Taiwan's F-16V fleet.
