Vice President Lai Ching-te vows to address road safety issues during the "Stop Killing Pedestrians"

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan presidential candidates Lai Ching-te, Hou Yu-ih and Ko Wen-je, as well as Foxconn Founder Terry Gou, addressed crowds at the "Stop Killing Pedestrians" march on Ketagalan Boulevard on Sunday (Aug. 20).

The rally, organized by Vision Zero, aims to eliminate pedestrian deaths on the city's streets.

During his speech, incumbent Vice President Lai Ching-te emphasized his commitment to implementing the traffic safety basic act by adopting a "people-centric" and a "smart-technology" approach, with a focus on four aspects: road safety, supervision, traffic, and law enforcement.

Lai expressed ambitions to reduce the road mortality rate by 50% by 2030, and achieve zero deaths by 2040.

In collaboration with the opposition and the ruling party, Lai hopes to improve 600 priority intersections by the end of 2024.
