TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Taiwan's military carried out its Han Kuang exercises at Taoyuan On Wednesday (July 26), simulating attacks and defenses at the city's airport and refinery.
Despite Typhoon Doksuri approaching, military personnel took advantage of northern Taiwan's relatively sparse wind and rain to conduct the exercises.
The troops defended the airport against mock enemy forces that descended from Black Hawk helicopters while engaging in simulated fire with them.
Eventually, the Taiwan soldiers emerged victorious, concluding the drills with a strong wave of the national flag.
President Tsai Ing-wen, who confirmed contracting COVID-19 on Tuesday, was present to oversee the drills while wearing a face mask.
Military personnel conducted defense drills at the Taoyuan refinery to "protect critical infrastructure," and everything concluded without any issues.
The defense ministry is adjusting and canceling several drills in the eastern and southern parts of Taiwan because of the approaching Typhoon Doksuri to ensure the safety of the military and the public.
