TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Mark Liu, announced on Thursday (July 20) that the planned production schedule for the Arizona factory in the United States may face delays, pushing the commencement date from the originally scheduled end of 2024 to 2025.

According to Liu, the Arizona factory has encountered some challenges, causing the production delay. Still, he assured the company's fab in Japan will adhere to its original plan to begin by the end of 2024 in producing 16nm, 22nm, and 28nm chips.

In the company's online corporate briefing released earlier that day, Liu elaborated on the company's global manufacturing strategy, emphasizing that the locations of their manufacturing plants are primarily determined by customer demand and support.

In addition, Liu explained that TSMC intends to expedite the assessment of building automotive-specific process capacity in Germany, depending on customer demands and government support in the region.
