TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) CEO, Norman Chen, shares his Asian American experience with TVBS commentator Wenchi Yu in an episode of TVBS Meeting Room.

Chen said that many Asian Americans struggle to find their identities, as "80% of AAPI's […] do not feel like [they] truly belong and are accepted in the U.S."

Chen felt he belonged in this region for the first time when he lived in Hong Kong.

Moreover, Chen points out that a third or quarter of Americans still feel that Asian Americans are more loyal to a country in Asia than to the U.S.

"No matter how many generations you've been here, someone will ask you, where are you from?" Chen gave an example. "They will sometimes never think of you as truly American."

With his work at TAAF, Chen said they have successfully brought the community to work together, but sometimes he faces challenges with the divide between political parties.

"We represent the entire community and really try to work in a bipartisan way, through all of our work, through anti-hate, through education, through narrative change [...] let's come together to really make that successful," Chen remarked.
