NANJING (TVBS News) — Former Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou expressed his profound sadness after visiting the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall on Wednesday (March 29).
Despite having read books and seen pictures of the Nanjing Massacre, Ma said that the magnitude of its impact was never as profound as when he visited the memorial hall.
"This savage event represents a rare and brutal chapter in human history, and the Chinese people suffered greatly as a result," Ma said.
In the guest book of the memorial hall, he left a message in Chinese calligraphy — “history should not be forgotten."
Ma emphasized the importance of learning from tragedies, saying, "As Chinese citizens, let us take heed and strive towards self-reliance so that we may never again fall victim to bullying and slaughter by others."
