TAIPEI (TVBS News) — It's time to take out your thick coats and blankets in Taiwan as local temperatures continue to drop.

According to weather bureau forecasts, the first cold wave will approach this weekend between Sat. (Dec. 17) and next Tuesday (Dec. 20).

The next few days will be reminiscent of Taiwan's 2016 bitter cold wave, according to weather experts.

This week, temperatures may bounce back a bit on Thursday and Friday, but they will dip sharply on Friday evening.

Even though the temperature is set to bounce back a bit next Monday, weather forecasters explain it's just the difference between a cold wave and a cold front, meaning thick coats are probably still necessary.

Meanwhile, for those hoping to catch a glimpse of snow in Taiwan, mountainous areas higher than 1,500 meters are likely to see snowfall as there is enough moisture in the air.

Meteorologists have reported that a snowy weekend is possible in some mountainous areas as temperatures are expected to drop in the early hours of Saturday.
