Jeeps fined for illegally crossing river in Shei Pa National Park (source: TVBS)
MIAOLI (TVBS News) — A group of jeep lovers attempted to cross a river in Shei Pa National Park earlier this week, but eventually failed. The water flow was so strong that a car was flipped into the water. The incident unfolded upstream of the Da'an River in a creek at the junction of Miaoli and Taichung.
After receiving a report, the local police immediately sent personnel to assist and investigate. The problem is that this creek was closed to vehicles, and the drivers knowingly violated local regulations, namely the "Water Conservancy Law."
A total of 14 jeep owners were caught by police. The group originally planned to visit the Yexi Hot Spring in Da'anxi. "A dozen or so off-road Jeeps entered the upper reaches of Da'an River and visited the waters of Shei Pa National Park," a police officer told local media.
The Water Conservancy Department of Miaoli County is expected to fine the jeep owners between NT$10,000 to NT$200,000.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the accident.
