TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Government has hit a snag in securing NVIDIA's (輝達) overseas headquarters due to unresolved negotiations with Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (新光人壽). Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) stated on Monday (Oct. 20) that integration of the T12 base faces no issues, with private landowners already coordinated.
Lee noted that coordination with the central government remains necessary for the military camp at southern area of Taipei Songshan Airport. If NVIDIA ultimately seeks simultaneous development of both plots, the city government will fully cooperate. Responding to rumors of a secret base, Lee disclosed that the city has multiple contingency plans but does not intend to reveal them.
Shin Kong Life Insurance aims to negotiate termination fees directly with NVIDIA. However, Lee emphasized that NVIDIA prefers the city government to reclaim the land first, then establish surface rights directly with them. The city reported necessary procedures to the Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) in July, completing amendments and securing Executive Yuan (行政院), Taiwan's cabinet, approval.
Lee stressed that if Shin Kong Life Insurance agrees to terminate the contract with the Taipei City Government, this would allow the city to set surface rights for NVIDIA immediately. NVIDIA has expected that all contingency plans from the city and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) can be prepared by Oct. 24. The city has organized these plans and intends to submit them to NVIDIA by the deadline.
