NANTOU (TVBS News) — A fallen tree on Provincial Highway 14 (台14線) in Nantou crushed a pickup truck, killing one person and injuring another on Thursday (Oct. 31).
Typhoon Kong-rey brought 17-level gusts to Mt. Hehuan (合歡山), causing the accident in Ren'ai Township (仁愛鄉).
The incident claimed the life of a 56-year-old foreign female passenger, who showed no signs of life at the scene and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A 76-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries but remained conscious.
Rescue teams transported the victims to Taichung Veterans General Hospital Puli Branch (台中榮民總醫院埔里分院) for emergency treatment.
