TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen's (蔡英文) office confirmed on Monday (Oct. 7) that she will attend the 28th Forum 2000 in Prague on Oct. 12, following an invitation from the Forum 2000 Foundation. Tsai plans to deliver a speech at the event, which focuses on "Proving Democracy's Resolve and Resilience."
Tsai visited President Lai Ching-te's official residence Sunday to convey blessings from him and the people of Taiwan to international allies such as the Czech Republic.
Her office emphasized the shared democratic journey between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, highlighting their close economic and cultural partnership in defending freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
During the forum, Tsai intends to share Taiwan's experiences in promoting democracy and prosperity. She anticipates that more like-minded forces in the international community will unite to tackle current global political and economic challenges.
The Forum 2000 Foundation, established in 1996 by former Czech President Václav Havel, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, and Japanese philanthropist Sasakawa Yohei (笹川陽平), aims to promote democracy, protect human rights, and strengthen civil society.
Tsai has a history with the forum, having been invited in 2004 as the chair of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會), and she delivered video speeches three times during her presidency. This year's forum will address topics such as global order, fragile democracies, democracy and technology, the Ukraine forum, and regional focal areas.
Tsai's participation underscores Taiwan's commitment to democratic values and its role in fostering international collaboration. Her presence at the forum may pave the way for deeper partnerships in addressing global issues.
