TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the Mid-Autumn Festival draws near on Tuesday (Sept. 17), many people celebrated early over the weekend, prompting nutritionists to emphasize the importance of enjoying the festivities while making smart food choices and exercising moderation.
Nutritionist Chang Yi-ting (張宜婷) offers some dietary advice and highlights that certain foods are particularly high in calories. According to the Food Nutrition Database, 100 grams of rice contains approximately 183 calories. In contrast, 100 grams of beef belly has 430 calories, pork belly has 368 calories, and bacon has 372 calories.
Chang recommended opting for lower-fat meats like shrimp, clams, scallops, fish, and chicken during barbecues. She also suggested choosing cuts like beef shank, chuck steak, or pork shoulder, which are lower in calories and fat.
However, Chang advised individuals with chronic diseases to be cautious with sauces and overall starch intake. Gout patients, in particular, should avoid consuming too much seafood.
For those who indulged over the weekend, Chang suggested a light diet the following day, including boiled vegetables, stir-fried chicken, or air-fried fish. This approach can help mitigate the burden of high-calorie foods consumed during the celebrations.
