TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory for Kaohsiung (高雄) and Pingtung (屏東) on Monday (Aug. 19), warning of localized downpours due to southwesterly winds. The advisory remains in effect from morning until night, urging residents to stay cautious.
At 1:20 p.m., the CWA expanded the advisory to include 16 more counties and cities, such as the north coast of Keelung (基隆), Taipei (臺北), New Taipei (新北), Taoyuan (桃園), Hsinchu County (新竹縣), and Miaoli County (苗栗縣). These areas may experience short-duration heavy rainfall.
The CWA explained that a low-pressure system and enhanced southwesterly winds contribute to unstable weather conditions from late night today through tomorrow. The central and outlying regions will likely see heavy rain, while the southern areas may experience torrential rain. Other regions should prepare for afternoon downpours.
The CWA noted that the southwesterly winds are expected to weaken slightly starting tomorrow, while central, southern, and outlying regions should remain alert for localized heavy rain, and other regions will generally be cloudy with possible afternoon downpours in the north and Yilan (宜蘭).
Stay tuned for further updates as weather conditions evolve, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of unpredictable weather.
