TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2024 Taipei Summer Travel Expo (2024台北國際夏季旅展暨海峽兩岸台北夏季旅展) commenced at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 (世貿一館) on Friday (July 12), welcoming 155 officials and industry representatives from China to participate. The event will run until July 15.
During the opening ceremony, Secretary-General of the Straits Exchange Foundation (海基會秘書長) Luo Wen-jia (羅文嘉) highlighted the significance of this travel expo.
He noted that the event features over 500 exhibitors, including 70 booths from 12 provinces and cities across the strait, and emphasized the importance of mutual tourism exchanges for healthy and orderly bilateral relations.
Luo expressed his gratitude to the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會), the Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (交通部觀光署), and the National Immigration Agency of the Ministry of the Interior (內政部移民署) for facilitating the participation of many mainland Chinese friends.
Luo said, "Re-establishing equal tourism exchanges between the two sides has always been a government directive, and we hope to continuously build goodwill and overcome obstacles through the Straits Exchange Foundation."
Regarding the resignation of former Chairman Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) due to legal issues, Luo assured that the foundation remains a mature and operational organization. He stated, "All staff members are committed to their duties and are awaiting further instructions from the MAC."
The expo aims to foster greater understanding and cooperation between Taiwan and China. Participants and visitors can expect a robust lineup of tourism-related activities and opportunities for cross-strait dialogue.
