TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (氣象署) has issued a heat information alert, urging the public to take precautions against the sun and stay hydrated amid rising temperatures. This warning comes as Taichung City (台中市) reported many heat-related illnesses in June, with 107 individuals seeking medical treatment for conditions such as heatstroke, cramps, and edema.

In response to the escalating heat, Tseng Tzu-chan (曾梓展), director of the Health Bureau of Taichung City Government, emphasized the importance of seeking shade and drinking plenty of fluids.

He highlighted that symptoms of heat injuries, including unconsciousness, require immediate medical attention. According to the National Health Insurance Administration (健保署), the 107 cases of heat injuries in Taichung City from June 1 to June 30 underscore the severity of the situation.

Tseng offered three critical recommendations for protection against heat: Finding cool or air-conditioned spaces, redistributing fluids and electrolytes, and seeking medical help if symptoms arise.

He noted that while cases of heat-related illnesses were not previously tallied, this year's extreme temperatures prompted the initiation of such records. Tseng also pointed out that despite the spike in cases, Taichung's proportion of heat injuries has remained relatively high nationwide.
