TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) confirmed on Friday (June 28) that a Hong Kong national, who held a British passport and was a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visited the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR, 國防安全研究院) in June last year.

The Ministry's Response

The ministry emphasized that the INDSR is a think tank that frequently interacts with various sectors. It maintained that its researchers are strictly required not to discuss matters involving national defense security.

The MND also indicated that because the INDSR is located within a military camp, visitors must apply and be vetted before entry. Visitors' movement and areas are restricted, and they are accompanied by institute personnel throughout the visit.

Measures for Future Prevention
The MND has asked the INDSR to review and improve its procedures if necessary. This is to prevent individuals from deliberately concealing their identities and to guard against potential infiltration and sabotage by the Chinese Communist Party.

The ministry's move comes as Taiwan continues to strengthen its defenses against potential threats, with the aim of maintaining its sovereignty and national security.
