New Taipei Mayor outlines plans for Linkou Light Rail (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) announced on Wednesday (June 19) that the Linkou Light Rail (林口輕軌) will be prioritized if it reaches a daily traffic threshold of 3,500 passengers per kilometer.

The Mayor indicated that the rail route could be overhead or underground, depending on further studies.

Lee Cheng-an (李政安), director of the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems, noted a rise in regional traffic since introducing the TPASS1200 monthly pass and expects a review by the end of July.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councilor Lee Yu-hsiang (李宇翔) highlighted the growing populations in Linkou, Wugu, and Taishan, stressing the need for effective traffic solutions.

In response, Mayor Hou referenced discussions with former and current Taoyuan mayors about expanding light rail systems to meet increasing demands.

Also, Councilor Lee raised concerns about the potential traffic impact of the new Danjiang Bridge (淡江大橋) on existing roads, suggesting that any new Guandu Bridge (關渡新橋) should connect to Provincial Highway 64 to avoid congestion.
