Japanese lawmakers to attend Lai’s inauguration

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant display of international relations, Chen Chih-jen, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association (台灣日本關係協會), announced on Tuesday (May 7) that a large number of Japanese lawmakers have registered to join the celebration group for the upcoming presidential inauguration in Taiwan.

This enthusiastic participation underscores Japan's high regard for Taiwan's new government, signaling a robust bilateral relationship, the association highlighted.

Robust Participation from Japan

Chen revealed that 37 cross-party Japanese lawmakers are scheduled to attend President-elect Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) inauguration ceremony on May 20.

The delegation includes several members with cabinet-level experience, highlighting the significance Japan places on this event.

Furthermore, Taiwan will welcome up to 15 groups, totaling more than 140 guests from Japan, comprising parliamentarians, local government leaders, and pro-Taiwan individuals from the private sector. This substantial presence from Japan is a testament to the strong ties and mutual respect between the two nations.

A Celebration of Diplomatic Ties

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is preparing to host dignitaries from around the world for the May 20 presidential inauguration, emphasizing Taiwan's commitment to fostering international relationships.

Chen stressed the importance President-elect Lai Ching-te and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) place on Taiwan's relationship with Japan, noting their extensive connections in Japanese political and civil circles.

This event not only marks the beginning of a new chapter in Taiwan's leadership but also serves as a platform to strengthen international bonds, particularly with Japan.

As Taiwan prepares to welcome its guests, the focus on meticulous reception efforts reflects the island's dedication to international diplomacy and its anticipation of further deepening ties with Japan. The upcoming inauguration stands as a significant occasion, not just for Taiwan's domestic politics but also for its international relations, especially with Japan.
