TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a significant move to address the growing demand for talent in the net-zero transition, the Ministry of Environment's National Environmental Research Academy launched a "Net-Zero Emission Capacity Enhancement Class" on Tuesday (April 30).
The initiative, which saw its registration slots in the northern, central, and southern regions of the country fill up within just two days, underscores the urgent need for skilled professionals in the green sector.
Rapid Enrollment Reflects High Demand
President Liu Tsung-yung of the National Environmental Research Academy highlighted that the capacity enhancement class is one of five major themes in the net-zero talent training program.
With 60% of the participants being young green-collar workers, the program's popularity is evident. Liu also announced plans to introduce courses such as "ESG Report Training Enhancement Classes" to further expand the academy's offerings.
This initiative aligns with the academy's goal to equip individuals with the skills needed for greenhouse gas inventory, carbon footprint verification, and voluntary reduction projects—key areas in job descriptions across the corporate sector.
Supporting Green Careers
Data from a local job bank indicates an average of 6,000 green-collar job opportunities available each month, signaling a significant increase in demand for green talent.
To assist participants in finding relevant job information, the National Environmental Research Academy's website offers a "Environmental Specialist Exchange Platform."
Moreover, a university student participant shared that the course's inclusion of lectures by Ministry of Environment officials provided deep insights into international trends and domestic policies on net-zero carbon emissions.
The training, priced at NT$1,000 per day, offers free participation to college students aged 18 to 35 who pass a test, with a refundable deposit of NT$1,000 required.
