TAIPEI (TVBS News) — National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) claimed the top spot in the 'Most Favored University Among Companies 2024' survey released on Jan. 11 by Cheers Magazine.
The top ten are: NCKU, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chengchi University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Central University, National Taipei University of Technology, and Tamkang University.
On the private universities level, Tamkang University tops the list, followed by Fu Jen Catholic University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Feng Chia University, and Soochow University.
The list saw a surge in the number of professional and technical institutes among the top 30, with ten making the list. This is a significant increase from last year, outpacing the eight general private universities on the list.
The largest climbers were Minghsin University of Science and Technology and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, which shot up by 20 and 13 spots, respectively. Both schools have been closely monitored by the semiconductor industry.
Standouts among industries' top five favorites include the traditionally humanities-oriented National Chengchi University, which jumped to third place in the high-tech services industry list, and Soochow University, which landed in the top five for the finance industry—the only private university to do so.
Regarding prospective hires, 48.4% of human resources managers opined that an individual's educational background holds less sway four years into their career, emphasizing the importance of personal traits and learning potential in long-term career advancement.
The survey, conducted by Commonwealth Magazine, collected data from 2,000 major companies' HR departments between Nov. 6 and 29, 2023. They dispatched 3,008 invitations and received 914 valid responses, a response rate of 30.39%.
