TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Army Education, Training and Doctrine Development Command confirmed Wednesday (Dec. 27) that a staff sergeant is currently under hospital care after suddenly losing signs of life while running the day before.
Senior officers have been dispatched to address the issue and have contacted the family of Sgt. Lee, they said.
The Kinmen Defense Command reported on Tuesday that the 31-year-old sergeant was transferred to an army camp in the south for training. He lost signs of life while running in the camp on Dec. 26.
Despite being rushed to a hospital and undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment (ECMO), he remains in a coma and is in critical condition.
The Army Education, Training, and Doctrine Development Command said they have coordinated with the hospital to provide the best medical care. Additionally, they will continue to promote winter health education and exercise risk management to assure the safety of other servicemen.
