TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a high-profile legal confrontation, Taiwanese entertainer Tina Chou, also known by her stage name "Da Ya," has been cleared of defamation charges by the Taipei District Court on Tuesday (Dec. 19) after accusing her former boss, Chen Chien-chou, of attempting to assault her years ago.
Chen, who faced allegations from Chou, had subsequently filed a defamation suit against her. The court sessions, which saw Chen making appearances at the Taipei District Court for testimonies, culminated in the prosecutor's decision not to pursue charges against Chou.
Through her agent, Chou expressed her gratitude to the judiciary and all those who have paid attention to her case. She shared her hope that her experience would encourage other victims of sexual harassment or assault to come forward.
During the court proceedings, Chou bolstered her claims with testimonies from witnesses like the actress Julie Tsai, who supported Chou's narrative.
Chen, seeking to clear his name, stated at the court that he looks forward to an opportunity to reveal the truth and prove his innocence through legal means.
The court's decision marks a significant moment in the ongoing conversation about sexual misconduct within the entertainment industry in Taiwan, highlighting the legal and social challenges confronting individuals who speak out.
