TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Power Party (NPP) reiterated on Tuesday (Dec. 12) its call to ban manufacturers who violate labor laws from government procurement in an effort to tighten minimum wage regulations.
The urgency of the issue is evident as the Legislative Yuan prepares to vote on the long-debated Minimum Wage Act draft. This draft, under discussion for over seven years, remains a point of contention among political parties.
The NPP emphasizes the need for equal representation in decision-making, advocating for a "1:1:1" ratio involving labor, capital, and government-academic parties.
Furthermore, the party asserts that minimum wage adjustments should not fall below the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) growth rate, tying wage increases to inflation and cost of living.
NPP Chairwoman Claire Wang proposes strict penalties for violators, suggesting their inclusion in a government procurement blacklist, effectively barring them from future government contracts as a punitive measure to enforce wage standards.
Wang asserts that the NPP's draft draws inspiration from France's minimum wage laws, aiming to ensure fair compensation for workers and protect vulnerable workers' purchasing power against rising living costs.
