PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — Pingtung County Fire Bureau Director Hsu Mei-hsueh formally resigned Friday (Oct. 6) during a joint public memorial for a devastating fire at Launch Technologies' factory.
The blaze, which unfolded on Sept. 22, claimed the lives of four firefighters. Hsu cited personal reasons for her departure.
President Tsai Ing-wen traveled to southern Pingtung to attend the firefighters' memorial and issued a presidential citation.
She was joined by County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, who not only accepted Hsu's resignation but agreed to temporarily assign Deputy Director Li Pin-cheng as acting fire bureau director and reassign Hsu to the legislature council.
Expressing respect for Hsu's decision, Chou acknowledged Hsu's dedicated service while in office as Fire Bureau Director.
She praised her for her admirable effort, leadership, and the significant contributions she made to the fire bureau, particularly during this challenging time of loss.
