TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) began a seven-day reserve brigade training on Saturday (Nov. 23) at National Chengchi University (政治大學) to enhance combat readiness and familiarize reservists with defensive positions.

The exercise, which involves tactical reporting and campus-area marching, aims to strengthen defenses in the southern Gongguan (公館) and Jingmei River (景美溪) regions. Approximately 100 reservists have set up field tents and washing areas on parts of the campus. Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄) emphasized that such training missions "align with combat readiness needs, considering frontline operations."

A reservist surnamed Xu (許), who was participating in the exercise, expressed curiosity about the novel experience of training on a university campus, particularly looking forward to the shooting practice. Experts noted that NCCU's choice as a training site stems from its mountainous terrain and strategic location. Its proximity to potential threats allows for rapid troop mobilization, making it ideal for such exercises.
