HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railway (台鐵) is set to launch the "Haifeng EMU500" (海風號) sightseeing train on Dec. 7. In collaboration with the tourism industry, this initiative offers a unique travel experience priced at NT$3,600 per person. For the first two weeks, the train will operate every Saturday and Sunday, providing passengers with an opportunity to enjoy local delicacies and scenic views.
The "Haifeng" (sea wind) train will serve Michelin one-star ice cream and local treats, such as Hsinchu's taro scallion scones and green grape shell macarons. With its first-season route spanning Hsinchu to Taichung, passengers can savor Taiwan's unique coastal landscapes, enhanced by the train's design.
The train features four carriages that can accommodate 60 passengers, with interiors in dreamy macaron colors and panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows. Previously, Taiwan Railway introduced "The Future" (鳴日號) sightseeing train, known for its distinctive black and orange exterior, business carriages, and bar compartments. This service's popularity necessitates bookings six months in advance.
