TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) declared on Thursday (Oct. 17) that there will be no compromise in protecting the rights of citizens. He emphasized that all dealings regarding the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) with the Farglory Group (遠雄集團) will proceed strictly according to law and contractual agreements.
His remarks followed growing concerns about the limited availability of VIP suites at the dome.
Controversy has erupted over the allocation of the dome’s third-floor VIP suites, with only two out of 18 suites being made available for event organizers. Some city councilors have raised concerns, calling these suites exclusive spaces for the privileged.
In response, Farglory Group’s vice president, Yang Shun-chin (楊舜欽), criticized the city's stance, accusing it of emotional manipulation by framing the use of VIP suites as a social responsibility issue. Yang stressed that Farglory would bear all financial risks, whether profits or losses, associated with the suites.
Wang Hung-shiang (王泓翔), head of the Department of Sport (台北市體育局), pointed out that the Taipei Dome project is a public asset under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. He stated that while the government would not interfere with operations, Farglory should increase transparency on the matter and establish a more open process for managing the suites.
Despite ongoing discussions, both the Taipei City Government and Farglory remain at an impasse, with no agreement in sight.
