TAIPEI (TVBS News) — SEMICON Taiwan 2024 opened on Wednesday (Sept. 4) with a strong focus on the AI era. Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) underscored Taiwan's solid foundation and the government's commitment to allocate sufficient budget next year to advance AI development.

During the opening ceremony, Cho highlighted Taiwan's role in the global supply chain, and expressed hopes to establish an AI era with Taiwanese elements to connect globally.

Assuring the government's full support and strategies to advance AI technologies, Cho said that "National policies will be adjusted and updated regularly, and new regulations will be established. We aim to build an AI era with Taiwanese elements and the ability to connect with the world."

The premier also pointed out that the government and the people would work together to embrace the AI wave, stating, "As long as the world needs Taiwan, Taiwan will take responsibility, and the government will also fulfill its role." He looked forward to more global connections and cooperation, including joint talent training, industry development, and new technology research.

President and CEO of SEMI Ajit Manocha stressed Taiwan's comprehensive semiconductor supply chain, covering all aspects from front-end manufacturing to design and R&D. "This decade is a decade of AI. What we're seeing is just the tip of the iceberg," he noted.

Manocha also predicted that the next decade would be the decade of quantum, driving the industry to reach US$4 to US$5 trillion by 2040 or 2050, with Taiwan playing a crucial role.

This year's SEMICON Taiwan, a three-day event, features over 3,700 booths and more than 1,100 leading companies. The event includes over 20 international forums, fostering deep industry exchanges and strengthening Taiwan's leadership in the global semiconductor industry.
