TAIPEI (TVBS News)—Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) announced Monday (Aug. 19) ongoing efforts to address water leakage and fire safety inspections at the Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋), adding that the National Day gala on Oct. 5 could be held at the venue if all necessary procedures are completed.
Chiang elaborated on the progress, stating that they aim to complete the initial phase of leakage repairs by the end of August. He mentioned that the fire safety drill was finished on July 30, with the inspection expected to be approved this week.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) emphasized the urgency of resolving the leakage issue by the end of next month. He highlighted the current efforts to add a membrane to the roof, which aims to be completed by the end of this month. This would facilitate the hosting of concerts at the Dome.
In response to civil engineers' concerns about the evacuation mechanism, Lee assured the public that the Taipei Dome connects to the National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館), allowing for the evacuation of all attendees to be within 15 to 20 minutes.
Chiang also expressed his vision for the Taipei Dome to host sports events and concerts. He publicly invited Taiwanese singer Jody Chiang (江蕙) to come back and perform at the venue.
