PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwanese sharpshooter Lee Meng-yuan (李孟遠), won Team Taiwan's first medal at the Olympic Games on Saturday (Aug. 3) in the men's skeet event and made history, marking a new milestone in Taiwan's Olympic shooting history.

Lee, clinching a bronze in his first Olympics, shared the podium with his idol, American shooter Vincent Hancock. Lee expressed the immense pressure he felt during the finals, stating, "This Olympic final was really a struggle from beginning to end because I've never had such an intense competition before."

In the qualification rounds, Lee ranked third with a score of 74 and later shot a total of 124, breaking his personal best and tying the Olympic record. He attributed his success to the support and care of his father and coach, Hsieh Chih-pei, also a seasoned national shooting athlete.

After the competition, Lee announced plans to lose weight, quit smoking, and enhance his skills upon returning to Taiwan. He acknowledged the significant help he received, saying, "Because I come from an ordinary family, if I really want to pursue this sport, I have to rely on a lot of help along the way.”

Lee's outstanding performance has written a new chapter in Taiwan's shooting history. As he prepares for future challenges, Taiwan eagerly anticipates his continued success on the global stage.
