TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese athletes showcased their prowess at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Sunday (July 28), delivering remarkable performances across various sports.

Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) defeated her Belgian opponent in only 37 minutes in Women's Singles badminton. Tai, who plans to retire by the end of 2024, will face Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon on July 31. She emphasized her focus on the game, stating she wouldn't overthink and would concentrate on her goals.

Meanwhile, Men's Doubles pair Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Lee Yang (李洋), gold medalists from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, triumphed over their Danish rivals. They will compete against Vinson Chiu and Joshua Yuan of the U.S. on July 30.

Their coach, Liu Chia-cheng (劉佳城), expressed optimism, noting that the team has a great chance to win again, but emphasized that they’ll take it one step at a time.

Chou Tien-chen (周天成), a long-time top-ten badminton player, won the Men's Singles against his Mexican opponent.

On the other hand, table tennis players Lin Yun-ju (林昀儒) and Chen Szu-yu (陳思羽) lost to China's Wang Chuqin (王楚欽) and Sun Yingsha (孫穎莎) in Mixed Doubles. Lin quickly bounced back, defeating Puerto Rico's Brian Afanador in Men's Singles to advance to the round of 32.

On the tennis court, Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and 20-year-old Tsao Chia-yi (曹家宜) also advanced to the round of 16 in Women's Doubles after defeating Romania.

In archery, the women's team of Chiu Yi-ching (邱意晴), Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩), and Li Tsai-chi (李彩綺) lost to South Korea, the top-ranked team. However, Coach Hsu Tzu-yi (徐梓益) remains positive, urging more confidence and further training.

Taiwanese athletes continue to strive for excellence on the stage, with unwavering support from their homeland.
