TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan celebrates a historic milestone as three athletes secure canoeing spots for the Olympic Games. This achievement marks the first time male athletes from Taiwan qualified for both Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom events, highlighting a significant moment in the nation's sports history.

Lai Kuan-chieh (賴冠傑) became Taiwan's first athlete to qualify for the Canoe Sprint event. He earned a silver medal at the 2024 Asian Canoe Sprint Championships and clinched a gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games. Wu Shao-hsuan (吳少璿), another Olympic newcomer, won a bronze medal at last year's Asian Games in Hangzhou and will make his Olympic debut in Paris.

Chang Chu-han (張筑涵), a more experienced slalom canoeist, first appeared at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Although she did not win a medal then, she will compete in this year’s Women's Kayak Single event. Chang's participation adds to Taiwan's representation in canoeing.

Years of dedication and hard work have culminated in this breakthrough for Taiwan's canoeing athletes. They are now poised to shine on the Olympic stage, bringing pride and recognition to Taiwan.
