KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan’s renowned badminton duo, Wang Chi-lin (王齊麟) and Lee Yang (李洋), are gearing up for the Paris Olympics, aiming to repeat their success from Tokyo 2021, where they won Taiwan’s first Olympic badminton medal.

After their stunning victory, the pair faced a rough patch for nearly two years without winning any titles. Winning the Japan Open gold last year gave them a much-needed confidence boost. "After the Tokyo Olympics, we struggled for a long time," Wang candidly said. "There were many arguments as we constantly discussed our values and attitudes toward badminton. I’m pleased that we finally broke through at the Japan Open last year and won the championship, which has made our mindset more stable and confident."

Chou Tien-chen (周天成) is preparing for the men’s singles competition. Last year, doctors diagnosed Chou with early-stage colorectal cancer, but he overcame the odds to clinch his fourth Hylo Open title. "When I was diagnosed with cancer last year, I was, of course, shocked," said Chou. "But I never saw it as an excuse for my performance on the court. Once you’re on the court, you have to face your opponent."

Mixed doubles pair Lee Chia-hsin (李佳馨) and Ye Hong-wei (葉宏蔚) are also making their Olympic debut in Paris. After winning gold at the Chengdu Universiade last year, they aim to make history for Taiwan. Ye confessed that he and Lee sometimes argue, but their common goal of winning keeps them moving forward. "On the court, what matters is that we both hope for a good result," said Ye.

Taiwan’s badminton ace Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) will also compete in Paris. After clinching silver at the Tokyo Olympics, Tai is gearing up for her fourth and final Games, aiming to end her remarkable career on a high note. In addition to Tai, Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand, Lianne Tan from Belgium, Tse Ying Suet from Hong Kong, and Michelle Li from Canada will also be making their fourth Olympic appearance.

Taiwan’s top badminton players are ready to compete at the highest level in Paris, striving to bring even more pride to their nation.
